On 1 December, the NGO MV Louise Mitchell said that a patrol boat of the Libyan Coast Guard closely approached the Louise Michel vessel and fired shots into the water at just 200-300 metres away. Shortly after the incident, their crew found an empty rubber boat which they assume meant there had been an illegal pullback of migrants to Libya. The statement said that Italy and the EU train, arm, and legitimise Libyan groups to enforce their illegal border violence. It claimed that the specific vessel that shots were fired from was gifted to Libya in 2023, with a ceremony that was attended by Italian Foreign Minister Tajani, Interior Minister Piantedosi, and EU Commissioner Várhelyi.
