On 11 September, the Italian Senate ratified the prisoner transfer agreement signed between Libya and Italy in Palermo on 29 September 2023. The agreement allows Libyan convicts in Italy to serve their sentences inside Libya and is supposed to prevent uneasy situations like the one in 2025, when an Italian court sentenced five former Libyan football players to 30 years in prison on charges of human trafficking and illegal migration.
