On 19 April, ISIS conducted a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (SVBIED) attack at a Libyan National Army (LNA) Tariq Bin Ziyad Brigade checkpoint in Umm al-Aranib, south of Sebha. According to a statement published by ISIS affiliated Amaq News Agency, the attack was part of the group’s ‘Vengeance for the Two Sheikhs Campaign’, killing one LNA fighter and injuring several others. The Government of National Stability (GNS) issued a statement condemning the attack, declaring that three soldiers had been injured, one seriously. The statement stressed the need to tackle the root causes of terrorism in Libya, such as the financing of extremist groups, as well as poverty and unemployment.
