On 5 October, Operation EUNAVFOR MED IRINI reported that during September 2021 it had investigated 215 merchant vessels via radio calls (out of 4.002), carried out nine visits on ships with Masters’ consent (out of 183) and conducted two boarding/inspections of suspect vessels. The Operation also revealed it had monitored 36 suspect flights (out of 610) and continues to monitor 25 airports (and landing strips) and 16 ports (and oil terminals). Through the Crime Information Cell, the Operation issued 7 (out of 48) recommendations of inspection of suspect vessels in EU Member States’ ports while 7 (out of 39) were completed.
