According to an IOM DTM Report released on 21 May, there were at least 858,604 migrants in Libya as of January to February 2025.

This represents an increase of approximately four per cent compared to the previous round of data collection and nearly 19 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. This upward trend has been ongoing since December 2023. Around 78% were adult males, 11% were adult females, and 11% were children, of whom 4% were unaccompanied minors. 25% of migrants were unemployed (53% among females, 21% among males).

Of those working, most (47%) worked as construction labourers. In early 2025, DTM Libya observed an overall increase in migrant presence in the eastern and western regions. This trend appears linked to both increased mobility through border areas and improved economic opportunities in key sectors such as construction, trade, and agriculture. In contrast, the southern regions reported relatively lower migrant numbers, remaining consistent with figures from the previous round.
