On 18 October, in an interview with the Italian newspaper Notizie Geopolitiche, Government of National Stability (GNS) PM Osama Hammad sharply criticized the international community’s handling of migration issues in Libya. He accused UNSMIL and several European and regional powers of deepening Libya’s political divisions by refusing to recognize his government and instead supporting rival entities. Focusing on migration, Hammad argued that European governments have failed to offer meaningful cooperation or funding to his administration. He claimed that if these countries had worked with his government, Libya could have effectively sealed off its southern desert to irregular migrants. He also lamented that Libya spends substantial resources managing migration, yet receives little concern or support from the international community and European states.
On 19 October, Eastern Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency chief Major General Salah al-Khafifi stated that Libya is handling approximately 75% of migrant deportations, highlighting the lack of effective European Union support in managing irregular migration.
