On 2 December, Libyan National Army (LNA) Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar visited the 4th edition of the Egypt Defence Expo 2025 (EDEX 2025) in Cairo at the invitation of Egyptian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Ahmad Fathy Ibrahim Khalifa.
Khaled Haftar toured multiple Egyptian and international pavilions, specifically inspecting advanced systems for air, land, and naval operations. Reportedly he was particularly interested in surveillance technologies, drone solutions, and tactical communication networks relevant to border security. Khaled held discussions with representatives from major global defense manufacturers to explore procurement opportunities that align with the LNA’s ‘security priorities,’ specifically counter-terrorism and border protection.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, Khaled Haftar met briefly with his host Ahmad Khalifa for talks about bilateral military cooperation, especially regarding training. Beyond the exhibition, Khaled Haftar also visited the Command and Staff College of Egypt’s Military Academy for Advanced Studies and Strategy, where he met Libyan officers enrolled in training programmes. The staff of the academy informed him about the curricula and training plans for the students.
On 8 December, LNA Commander Khalifa Haftar, his son LNA Deputy Commander Saddam Haftar, and his other son Khalid were received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The meeting was also attended by the Egyptian Director of the General Intelligence Service Major General Hassan Rashad.
Al-Sisi and Khalifa Haftar reaffirmed the deep and historic ties between Egypt and Libya, emphasizing shared commitment to Libya’s sovereignty, unity, and stability. Al-Sisi highlighted Egypt’s continued support for the LNA and national institutions, stressing the need to end foreign interference and withdraw mercenaries. Haftar expressed gratitude for Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting Libya’s security and pledged ongoing coordination with Cairo. Both leaders underscored the importance of holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections to resolve the Libyan crisis. The talks also addressed regional challenges, particularly Sudan, where they agreed that preserving Sudan’s stability and territorial integrity is vital for the national security of both Egypt and Libya.
