On 17 October, the Libyan National Army (LNA) conducted a large-scale military parade in Sebha. The Head of the LNA, Khalifa Haftar, delivered a speech criticising successive Tripoli governments and the Government of National Unity (GNU). He accused the GNU of excessive spending with limited results and failed governance in the South which has ‘reached an unbearable stage and it can no longer be silent’. Haftar announced the LNA’s readiness to ‘protect the people in their uprising’ and referred to an ‘inevitable battle that must be fought’.
