On 3 September, the Social Council of the Qadhadhfa tribe condemned Libyan National Army (LNA) Commander Khalifa Haftar’s practices against the tribe in Sirte. It called on the international community and human rights organizations to declare a clear position condemning and criminalising the targeting of citizens on identity to muzzle voices and prevent them from their right to movement and expression of opinion.
The following day, Libya Crime Watch condemned the ‘serious violations against the Qadhadhfa tribe in Sirte’ and called on Haftar to release the detainees. It said the arrests were preceded by a ban on peaceful gatherings by force, violence, threats, intimidation and house raids from 23 to 30 August.
