On 4 October, speaking at the 17th meeting of the Chiefs of Defence of the 5+5 Defence Initiative in Tunis, the Libyan Army Chief of Staff Muhammed Haddad stressed the need to confront the challenges facing the Mediterranean region, including terrorism, smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and irregular migration. He highlighted the importance of building the defence capacities of member state through joint training, exchange of expertise, and the development of maritime and air surveillance mechanisms.
