On 3 December, Government of National Stability (GNS) Minister of Interior Essam Abu Zuriba held a meeting in Benghazi on the negative effects of irregular migration at the local level with the head of the Criminal Investigation Agency, the chair of the House of Representatives’ (HoR) Internal Affairs Committee, the heads of the anti-immigration agencies in Cyrenaica and Fezzan and others. Concrete measures to strengthen control at border crossings and improve the fight against human trafficking gangs were also discussed. The importance of cooperation between the MoI security forces, the Libyan National Army (LNA) and the relevant authorities was emphasized. Abu Zuriba expressly emphasized the need to treat migrants humanely and to respect their rights.
