Fuel shortages worsen significantly in and around Tripoli

Fuel shortages have worsened significantly in and around Tripoli this week, with lengthy queues reforming at petrol stations across the city.

The capital city is facing a major fuel shortage, causing many petrol stations to shut down and forcing people to wait in long lines for hours. Although distribution companies claim fuel tankers have reached Tripoli port, there’s still a clear gap between supply and actual delivery. This issue has led to traffic problems and disrupted everyday business, increasing frustration among citizens about the dependability of essential services.

On 11 January, Suleiman made a field inspection tour that included several fuel distribution stations in Tripoli to ‘address directly the causes of congestion, to follow the flow of supply operations, and to work to ensure that the fuel distribution to citizens is smooth.’ During the tour, he said he emphasized the need to address the congestion and improve the level of services provided.

Although the Brega Petroleum Marketing Company said on 12 January that it was inspecting petrol stations in Tripoli to check the reasons for their closure, it has not directly acknowledged there are any major fuel shortages in the capital or offered any direct assurances on this matter.
