On 11 February, French Vice Admiral Lucas visited Tripoli where he met with acting Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Salaheddin al-Namroush to discuss bilateral military relations and cooperation.
On 12 February, Lucas met with Khaled Haftar in Benghazi. France’s high-level meetings and participation in the conference comes as France has increased its engagement on Libya recently, especially in the security field, in part due to concerns about increased migration flows and the destabilization of the Sahel region. The most recent meeting between Saddam Haftar and Ibrahim Dabaiba in January was held in Paris.
