France seeks stronger military cooperation with Libya as Saddam Haftar meets Macron in Paris

On 14 June, Libyan National Army (LNA) Deputy Commander Saddam Haftar met with President Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris where the two sides discussed bilateral relations, military cooperation, and the latest developments in Libya and the wider region. According to the LNA readout, Macron emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue and coordination between the two sides, supporting initiatives that contribute to consolidating stability in Libya, and developing cooperative relations to serve mutual interests and enhance security and stability in the region.

Saddam also met with French Special Envoy Paul Soler, the Chief of Staff to the President Vincent Giraud and Commander of Special Operations Michel Delpit. The French Embassy said these meetings provided an opportunity to discuss, at the highest level, the future of bilateral military cooperation between the two countries. France reaffirmed its support for the unification of the armed forces and the withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign forces from Libya.
