On 17 August, the US military attaché to Libya Colonel Dustin Dinola met with acting Chief of Staff for the Libyan Army Lieutenant General Salahadeen al-Namroush to discuss military and security cooperation, including training, capacity building and improving operational readiness. They also discussed proposed training programmes linked to the US-led Flintlock exercise.
On 6 August, EU Ambassador Nicola Orlando met with members of the Joint Military Committee 3+3 – which oversaw US AFRICOM’s Flintlock 2026 exercise – bringing together representatives from Tripoli and Benghazi under the auspices of the Ministry of Defence and the Libyan National Army (LNA) General Command. They discussed opportunities for the EU to support military unification and enhanced operational effectiveness through its Member States by contributing to strengthening Libya’s joint capabilities in counter-terrorism and border security.
