On 22 December, an armed group linked with drug trafficking attempted to assassinate Deputy Minister of Interior, Faraj Qaim, in Tobruk following an operation by the Minister of the Interior targeting drug traffickers. Qaim is not report to have suffered any major injuries from the incident. According to reports, the operation resulted in the arrest of 30 individuals linked to drug trafficking and production.
