On 18 August, the Front pour l’Alternance et la Concorde au Tchad (FACT) published a statement in which it claimed that the Chadian army had carried out an aerial bombardment on its base in Libya, killing three people and injuring another four. It also claimed that the Chadian army is preparing an incursion into Libyan territory to attack the base further. As a result of this, FACT said it is breaking the ceasefire declared in April 2021 between FACT and the Chadian army, vowing to respond in kind against the Chadian forces.
Following the publication of this statement, a video circulated on social media claiming to show the Libyan National Army’s (LNA) Tariq bin Ziyad (TBZ) Brigade helping the Chadian army to pursue the FACT forces in southern Libya. However, the validity of the video is in question.
Days later, on 21 August, the LNA announced the second phase of its plan to secure the country’s southwestern borders, in response to the recent coup in Niger.
