On 12 March, Libyan National Army (LNA) commander Khalifa Haftar received Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, Deputy Foreign Minister Edmondo Cirelli, and the head of Italian intelligence, General Gianni Carvelli in Benghazi. According to the LNA, the meeting came within ‘the framework of discussion and exchange of views between the two friendly countries, and to promote partnership and cooperation in security, economic and trade spheres.’ The Italian delegation appreciated the pivotal role of the LNA in combatting terrorism and extremism, and its significant efforts to reduce illegal immigration. They also affirmed support for all efforts to strengthen the political process.
Also on 12 March, Government of National Unity (GNU) Minister of Interior Emad Trabelsi met with British ambassador Martin Longden to discuss the shared challenges of security and migration, with Longden stressing that the key to unlocking long-term security and stability in Libya is the success of the political process. On 18 March, Haftar met with Longden in Rajma, discussing the latest developments in Libya and ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
