EU Operation IRINI released its figures for April 2024, noting it had inspected 628 ships by radio call and had inspected eight ships on board with the consent of the captain. 22 ‘suspicious flights’ were also registered, yet no mention was made of the well-documented delivery of multiple loads of Russian military equipment to Tubruq port throughout the month. This is despite Irini’s main mandate being to counter illegal arms trafficking to Libya.
