On 7 December, an EU delegation including Orlando, Commander of EUNAVFOR Med’s Operation Irini RADM Marco Casapieri, and the Head of EUBAM Libya Jan Vyčítal visited Benghazi where they met with Libyan National Army (LNA) Commander Khalifa Haftar. They reportedly agreed on the urgency of stepping up cooperation between the EU and the LNA General Command, including to strengthen land and sea border governance, address pressing humanitarian needs in particular of Sudanese refugees, and counter transnational human smuggling and trafficking networks. The delegation also met with LNA Deputy Commander Saddam Haftar and Chief of Staff Khaled Haftar.
