On 31 March, EU Ambassador to Libya Nicola Orlando met with Libyan officials including Minister of Interior Emad Trabelsi, as well as AU and UN representatives, as part of an AU-EU-UN Trilateral Task Force on migration. They called for establishing legal process for migrants and refugees in detention facilities and full access to detention centres for UN agencies and humanitarian actors. They also urged the release from detention of children, women and vulnerable persons, as well as finding alternatives for their detention. The meeting concluded with an expression of support for the Libyan government’s ‘commitment to fight human smuggling and improve the organisation of migrants labour force’.
