On 30 April, Libya’s Directorate for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM) warned against the influx of Sudanese refugees into Libya. The head of DCIM’s eastern branch Rafae al-Barghathi said that hundreds of Sudanese asylum seekers had already arrived at Libya’s southern borders, with numbers expected to increase. Meanwhile, his western counterpart Muhammed al-Khoja said the current situation would have negative effects on the borders and might be exploited by criminals and smugglers. He also issued instructions to intensify border security patrols and reinforce security in the Uweinat region.
