On 3 September at approximately 3am local time, the 444 Brigade, which is aligned with the Government of National Unity (GNU) Ministry of Defence (MoD), clashed with forces belonging to the Stability Support Apparatus (SSA), led by Abdul Ghani al-Kikli, aka ‘Ghinaywa’, and the Tripoli Revolutionaries Brigade (TRB) near the 444 Brigade’s headquarters at the al-Takabli camp. The camp, which also serves as the administrative headquarters of the GNU MoD Tripoli Military Region, is located in the Salah al-Din area of Tripoli. Medium and heavy weaponry was used, with fighting continuing intermittently for as long as two hours until the 444 Brigade successfully repelled the SSA from the area. Misratan forces linked to the MoD are reported to have mobilised to assist the 444 Brigade. Reports claim one member of the TRB was killed and 12 members of the SSA were captured by the 444 Brigade. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the fighting began after the 444 Brigade arrested a wanted SSA member at the Salah al-Din traffic light checkpoint, which is near the 444 Brigade headquarters and is manned by both groups.
