On 6 September, during the 58th session of the Arab League’s Council of Arab Foreign Ministers, the Egyptian delegation swiftly departed the meeting when the Government of National Unity (GNU) Foreign Minister, Najla Mangoush, was handed the presidency of the session by the Lebanese Foreign Minister. According to Ahmed Hafiz, the Spokesperson for the Egyptian Foreign Minister, the delegation departed due to concerns regarding the Arab League Presidency being held by a representative of an expired government. Mangoush is reported to have expressed that she did not agree but respected Egypt’s position, adding that the GNU is the internationally recognised government of Libya.
