On 2 June, the Zawiyyan Security Directorate dismissed the militia commander, Muhammed Bahroun (also known as ‘al-Far’, the ‘Mouse’) from his role as the head of the Zawiyyan Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and assigned Ashraf Misbah Duraid to the position. On the same day, forces affiliated with Bahroun were reported to have taken control of the Sabratha Police headquarters, though claims vary as to whether it was seized by force or whether it was a negotiated takeover. This coincides with reports that the head of the Libyan Intelligence Service (LIS), Hussein al-Ayeb, has assigned Bahroun to lead the General Intelligence Office for the Western Region operating from Sabratha, with a specific focus on counter-terrorism (CT).
