Many refugees and migrants have been killed or are missing following several shipwrecks off Libya over the last week.

On 15 September, a vessel carrying refugees heading towards Greece caught fire off the coast of Tubruq and capsised. The following day, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that the vessel was carrying 75 Sudanese, and at least 50 of them had died.

On 16 September, authorities in the coastal city of Zuwara said that they rescued 35 migrants, including five women and a child, from a separate incident. The migrants were on a boat off the coast of the Abu Kammash area, according to a statement by the GNU-led Zuwara Naval Operations Force.
