On 26 August, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received Libyan National Army (LNA) commander Khalifa Haftar and House of Representatives (HoR) Speaker Aqeela Saleh in El Alamein, Egypt.
According to official information, the talks centred on the latest political and security developments in Libya. A key topic was the new roadmap proposed by the UNSMIL. The leaders also addressed the urgent need to form a single, unified government to replace the fractured political landscape. President al-Sisi underscored the importance of ending all foreign interference in Libya and ensuring the complete withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries. The meeting further touched upon enhancing security coordination between the Egyptian and Libyan armies to better control borders and combat illegal immigration. Throughout the talks, al-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast commitment to Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and the integrity of its national institutions, emphasizing that the stability of Libya is a fundamental component of Egypt’s own national security.
Later the same day, Khalifa Haftar received Ali Mohammed Hammad al-Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE Supreme Council for National Security, in Benghazi. It can be assumed that their main topic was the UAE’s support for the RSF, which is – allegedly – transferred in part through Libyan territory.
