On 30 June, Presidential Council (PC) deputy Musa al-Koni met with department directors, office heads, and officers during a visit to the headquarters of the Libyan Intelligence Service (LIS). Al-Koni underscored ‘the necessity of preserving the unity of the Libyan Intelligence Service and rejecting any attempts to divide or weaken it.’ He noted that the Service is one of the country’s unified sovereign institutions, requiring the maintenance of its cohesion and the empowerment of its personnel to carry out their duties in protecting national security and safeguarding Libya’s stability.

Al-Koni has held several meetings with other groups and delegations this week around the LIS issue. On 5 July, he met with a delegation from Misrata, which included businessman Muhammad al-Tahir Issa, former head of the local council Khalifa al-Zawawi, and leader of the Council of Elders and Wise Men Ibrahim bin Ghashir, along with a number of other figures. The Misrata delegation reportedly appreciated al-Koni’s patriotic stances and his efforts to preserve the unity of the country and its institutions, and to promote consensus.
