On 1 October, the South Liberation Operations Room (SLOR) highlighted a Libyan National Army (LNA) military buildup at the al-Waw al-Kabir airbase near the borders with Niger.
The SLOR warned against the LNA increasing military airlift flights from Benghazi to al-Waw airbase. The group said that a military cargo (Ilyushin IL-76TD) plane with registration serial (5A-DRS) has recently conducted four trips between Benghazi and al-Waw airbase. The group said these airlifts coincide with massive ground fortifications and construction activities underway inside the airbase, which would be used by Haftar’s militias as an advanced base to smuggle gold and other precious minerals out of the country.
