On 30 September, the day before planned protests on 1 October, the ‘No to Resettlement’ campaign organised by the Tripoli Activists Movement stressed that its planned protest would remain peaceful and rejected any calls for violence or attacks against migrants. The campaign rejected reports and calls circulating on social media suggesting that violence or confrontations with irregular migrants could take place during the protest.

The campaign called on security agencies and the authority responsible for combating irregular migration to carry out their duties, citing concerns over the growing presence of migrants in streets and public spaces. The campaign was joined by groups including the Misrata Campaign Against the Settlement of Foreigners and Irregular Migration, the Tajoura Residents’ Campaign Against Settlement, and the Ghot Al-Shaal and Surrounding Areas Campaign.

Lawyer Thuraya Al-Tuwaibi, one of the campaign’s prominent figures, called on the foreign ministries of Libya’s two rival governments to contact the relevant countries to arrange the return of their nationals. She said workers with legal residency and those considered legitimate workers should be excluded from the campaign’s demands.
