On 25 September, Libyan National Army (LNA) Deputy Commander Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar officially visited Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
His first meeting was with Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court. They discussed issues of mutual interest, the latest developments and transformations in the region, and efforts aimed at supporting stability and preserving regional security. Both Sheikh Mansour and Saddam Haftar emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen the ‘fraternal and historical’ relations between Libya and the UAE, and to expand cooperation between them in various fields in a way that serves the common interests.
Speaking probably also for his father, Saddam stated that ‘we’ appreciate the positions of the UAE and its support for Libya. He reaffirmed solidarity with the UAE in facing the challenges the region is experiencing, as well as support for efforts aimed at promoting regional stability and security.
Thereafter, Saddam met Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Fadel al-Muzraoui, Minister of State for UAE Defense Affairs and Major General Isa Saif bin Abalan Al Muzraoui, Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces. Most importantly, they talked about several concrete files related to the defense cooperation between the LNA and the UAE, including training. Both sides underlined the importance of continued defense coordination and efforts to enhance military cooperation in a way that serves the common interests.
