Russian vessel carrying weapons hit off Crete by Ukrainian drones allegedly launched from Libya

On 6 September, Russian opposition journalist Alexander Nevzorov published a video purporting to show multiple drone strikes against a Russian-flagged (and US sanctioned) vessel, Lady Maria (IMO 9220641), causing a small fire. Reports said the Lady Maria was attacked in the Mediterranean Sea near Crete. It had reportedly left the Algerian port of Oran and was heading to Syria carrying weapons for Russia.

Nevzorov claimed that Lady Maria sustained 12 direct hits and that the drones were launched from Libyan territory. He also reported that the ship was carrying a shipment of Iranian weapons and armoured vehicles from Algeria intended for Russia.

Neither Kyiv nor Moscow has officially confirmed the attack. No government has claimed responsibility.
