Tensions have been rising in northern Niger, with the Southern Liberation Operations Room (SLOR) continuing to be active there and securing Libyan National Army (LNA) defections.
On 15 August, in an unidentified location in northern Niger, the 1st Recon Company of the Southern Liberation Operations Room (SLOR) issued a video statement in which they vowed to fight and expel the LNA from the Fezzan. In addition, the SLOR 1st Recon Co claimed responsibility for the attack on the Za’atria checkpoint on 24 June near Brak al-Shatti. Former LNA officer Brigadier Abdullah al-Ayat al-Bousaifi, who was implicated in the Za’atria incident, made an appearance in video statement confirming his defection to the SLOR.
On 15 August, Nigerien opposition groups including the Tuareg Patriotic Movement for Freedom and Justice (MPLJ), led by Moussa Kounaï, and the Tebu Patriotic Front for Liberation (FPL), led by Mahmoud Saleh, conducted a joint attack on a Nigerien military post in the remote Segidoum town in northeastern Niger.
