On 2 July, the Ministry of Interior’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) announced that one of its specialized Explosive Ordnance Disposal units successfully dismantled a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) in the city of Surman, preventing what could have been a major attack near a civilian target. The vehicle was discovered parked directly in front of the Shuhada’ Surman School, prompting an immediate response by an EOD team. After conducting an on-site inspection and assessment, the team determined that the car had been rigged for remote detonation and contained five artillery shells and a landmine connected to a wireless triggering system. Security forces quickly established a tight security perimeter around the area to secure the site and keep civilians away.
Following careful technical procedures, the bomb was defused and the explosives were removed without causing any injuries or material damage. The CID described the operation as precise and sensitive due to the nature of the explosive components and the location near an educational facility. Authorities confirmed that all necessary measures had been taken to search the area for any additional bombs, but nothing was detected. The CID reiterated its commitment to public safety and urged citizens to avoid approaching suspicious objects or vehicles and to report them immediately to the relevant security services.
