Saddam Haftar discusses migration & cooperation with Greek PM in Athens

On 15 June, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Libyan National Army (LNA) Deputy Commander Saddam Haftar at the Maximos Mansion in Athens. The discussions reaffirmed the historic ties between Greece and Libya and focused on expanding bilateral relations across multiple sectors, with both sides exploring avenues to develop cooperation in security, military, economic, and investment fields. Addressing shared challenges in the Mediterranean, the two leaders held extensive talks on managing illegal migration, emphasizing the need to take decisive, coordinated steps to curb illegal crossings. Additionally, they raised the issue of maritime boundary delimitation, discussing prospects for future dialogue on the matter. Concluding their meeting, Mitsotakis and Haftar agreed on the vital importance of maintaining continuous coordination to support regional stability and strengthen partnerships between the two countries.

Thereafter, Saddam Haftar met with Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens. This meeting followed an expanded bilateral session between the delegations of both countries. The discussions centred on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding diplomatic communication, and enhancing political coordination between Greece and Libya. According to the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks were conducted in a highly positive and constructive atmosphere.
