Security crackdowns on migrants and people smugglers continue

on 11 June, the Attorney General ordered the pretrial detention of fifteen undocumented migrants involved in a criminal gang engaged in migrant smuggling, human trafficking, and serious human rights violations. It said the Tripoli Security Directorate conducted an investigation based on information indicating a criminal group involved in human trafficking and coordinating migrant smuggling with gangs active in neighbouring countries. This group was also involved in detaining migrants to extort money from their families for their release.

On 12 June, the Ajdabiya Security Directorate announced the arrest of several illegal immigrants of Arab and African nationalities during a large-scale security campaign, which it carried out in cooperation with the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency and a number of other security agencies in the industrial district of the city.

On 13 June, the Criminal Investigation Department, Amsaad branch, announced the dismantling of a group involved in transporting and smuggling illegal immigrants across the Libyan-Egyptian border during the night hours, in a security operation that resulted in the arrest of 16 immigrants of Egyptian nationality and a number of those involved in the operation.

On 14 June, the Government of Nationaly Unity (GNU) Ministry of Interior said it had deported a group of illegal Egyptian migrants back to Egypt via Mitiga airport in line with relevant legal frameworks.
