On 7 January, Chad’s Minister of Public Security and Immigration, Lieutenant General Ali Ahmad Aghabash, met in the capital N’Djamena with Libya’s ambassador to Chad, Othman Fadel, to discuss securing the common border, in the presence of the acting Head of the Chadian Chief of Staff. Aghabash said the border is a vital area for interaction among local communities but is exposed to threats posed by cross-border crime, illicit trafficking, and illegal migration.
In this context, the Chadian authorities announced the imminent creation of a joint monitoring and consultation unit between N’Djamena and Tripoli. The mechanism aims to intensify border surveillance, coordinate the efforts of relevant agencies, and make cross-border movement more organized, secure, and peaceful between the two countries.
