There have been reassuring signs of continued military unification intent this week as a Libyan National Army (LNA) delegation paid respects to those killed in the Turkish air crash.
On 9 January, an LNA delegation led by the Secretary-General of the LNA General Command and member of the 5+5 Joint Military Committee (JMC), Lieutenant General Khairi al-Tamimi visited Misrata and then the Qasr Bin Ghashir area in Tripoli to offer condolences for the recent deaths of Government of National Unity (GNU) Chief of Staff Muhammed al-Haddad and JMC member al-Fitouri Grebeil respectively. The LNA delegation included other eastern 5+5 JMC members.
On 13 January, GNU Ministry of Defense Undersecretary for Regions and Military Affairs Abdussalam Zoubi and LNA Deputy Commander Saddam were reportedly heading to US AFRICOM’s base in Stuttgart, Germany to coordinate for the AFRICOM-led Flintlock 2026 exercise, planned to be held in Sirte in April 2026.
