On 26 September, 30 Libyan maritime officials from Tripoli and Benghazi completed the first training delivered by EUNAVFOR Med’s Operation IRINI in Italy. Operation IRINI will continue enhancing Libya’s capacities in the months ahead offering an intensive training programme, with a strong focus on increasing operational effectiveness and upholding international standards and maritime law.
On 29 September, EU Ambassador Nicola Orlando visited the site of a planned new facility to host migrants registered for voluntary return to their home countries, at the invitation of MG Mohammed Marhani, Head of the Supreme Committee on Migration at technical level. Orlando stressed the importance of ensuring that all returns are safe, voluntary, and carried out in line with humanitarian standards.
