US continues efforts to encourage military cooperation with GNU and LNA

On 9 April, US Charge d’Affaires Jeremy Berndt met with Libyan National Army (LNA) Khaled Haftar in Benghazi to discuss US Libya security cooperation. He said the US will continue to engage with military officers in all parts of Libya and to encourage Libyan efforts to unify military institutions. Unified, professional security institutions are essential for stability, lasting peace, and increased prosperity in Libya.

On 10 April, Berndt met with Deputy Minister of Defence Abdussalam Zoubi, discussing the prospects of military cooperation between Libya and the US, particularly in the field of military training and capacity building. The two sides emphasized the importance of continued technical coordination and broadening the areas of partnership to enhance the competence of the Libyan military. Zoubi expressed the appreciation of the Ministry of Defence for the technical and consulting support provided by the US, confirming that the next phase requires quality training programs that consider restructuring and rehabilitation priorities. Berndt renewed his country’s commitment to supporting the Libyan military path within the framework of the strategic partnership between the two countries, which contributes to promoting security and stability.
