On 14 August, the House of Representatives (HoR) held its fourth session to date to discuss and vote on the legislation for a constitutional referendum. The session was disrupted when a police officer was reportedly shot by accident when local HoR member Saleh Hashem’s gun went off as he was trying to get into the session. This led to raised tensions and members of his tribe turning up over fears of an altercation.
The first two sessions held two weeks ago were postponed as was the session on 13 August. Members failed to reach an agreement on the terms of the draft legislation as many of the articles were considered highly controversial.
