On 9 July, the Government of National Accord Minister of Interior, Fathi Bashaagha, announced that a suspected ISIS member had been arrested in Zawiyya days prior while additional ISIS fighters had been captured in Abu Grein the week before. Bashaagha claimed that the ISIS cells were intending to undertake attacks. On social media Bashaagha stated, ‘We are fully aware of the very real dangers posed by terrorism to the security of our people and the future prosperity of our country; hence we are working hard on eradicating these elements within the country.’
