Ismail Kamoka and four other Libyans have successfully won a legal case to sue M15 and M16 for unlawful detention and the unlawful use of counter-terrorism control orders. Kamoka was considered a “risk to the national security of the United Kingdom” and was jailed in the UK in 2007 after admitting to funding the now defunct Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) and providing false passports. However, documents recovered following the 2011 Libyan uprisings against Qadhafi allegedly show the national security assessments for their detention were obtained by torture. Kamoka reportedly now works at the Government of National Accord’s (GNA) London embassy.

On 7 December, Human Rights Watch (HRW) released a statement detailing the destruction of two historic Sufi mosques in November and October of this year in Tripoli. According to HRW Libyan authorities “have failed” to protect Sufis and have pointed to a recent report on the abduction of 21 Sufis in eastern Libya in August.
