28 Feb – 6 Mar: Egypt foil “infiltration attempt” across its western border with Libya

On 4 March, the Egyptian army announced it had foiled an “infiltration attempt” across its western border with Libya after reportedly destroying 11 vehicles loaded with arms and ammunition on the Libyan border. The is the latest in a series of similar claims, the most recent on 12 and 15 February, where the Egyptian army said they destroyed convoys of vehicles carrying weapons and fighters into western Egypt. However, as with the previous reports, no details were given about death toll or who the alleged perpetrators were thought to be. On 9 February, the Egyptian army said it had launched a wide-ranging security operation in Sinai, the Nile Delta and the western desert close to the Libyan border — involving elements from both the army and police — aimed at finding the perpetrators of a recent string of attacks.
