27 January- 02 February: ISIS kidnapping reported near Ghudduwah

On 25 January, social media sources reported that two brothers were kidnapped near Ghuddwah in southern Sebha by suspected ISIS militants. ISIS activity has been well documented in Ghudduwah, in late August last year a citizen from Ghudduwah was kidnapped, allegedly by an ISIS splinter group. ISIS has been accused of attacking Ghudduwah’s agricultural production as well as targeting the town’s municipal and agricultural administration. Airstrikes by US AFRICOM in September and October last year in southern Sebha and the Murzuq basin, is believed to have killed around 48 ISIS terrorists. Though the group has been significantly degraded, small cells remain active and able to move freely.
