On 19 August, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michele Bachelet, appointed three members of the independent fact-finding mission for Libya. The three members are Mohamed Auajjar from Morocco, Tracy Robinson from Jamaica and Chaloka Bevani from Zambia and the UK. The fact-finding mission is meant to update the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) next month with an oral account of its results, and produce a comprehensive written report on the human rights situation in Libya in 2021. The written report should include efforts to prevent and ensure accountability for violations and abuses of human rights, and recommendations for prevention going forward.
