On 19 March, a Benghazi Defence Brigade (BDB) commander, Ziyad Belaam, was severely injured while fighting against Libyan National Army (LNA) forces on the Ain Zara axis in southern Tripoli. The LNA’s 155 Battalion had earlier claimed to have “eliminated the targeted operatives, the most prominent of which was the fugitive terrorist Ziyad Belaam”. Some suggest he had been taken to Turkey for additional treatment after initially being treated in a Tripoli hospital. However, other sources claim that he was treated in Libya and has since returned to the frontlines.
