On 9 April, Africa Intelligence, Nova Agency and several other news sites reported that the American private military company Amentum had begun training the 444 Brigade (commanded by Mahmoud Hamza), the 111th (Misrata) ‘Halbous’ Brigade (the former brigade of Libyan Army CoS Muhammed al-Haddad, currently commanded by Abdussalam al-Zoubi) and the 166th (Misrata) Brigade (commanded by Muhammed al-Hasan) in the Tripoli area in March.
On 12 April, the US Embassy ‘corrected’ these reports about the training of ‘armed groups’ in Libya by Amentum stating, ‘These claims are not factual and mischaracterize classroom training Amentum administers outside of Libya for law enforcement personnel.’ According to the Embassy, ‘Amentum is an implementing partner for the State Department’s Antiterrorism Assistance Program run worldwide by the Bureau of Diplomatic Security.’
