On 9 May, unconfirmed reports surfaced of ISIS activity in Mizdah (180 km south of Tripoli) and potentially in Bani Walid and Ghariyan. According to reports, security forces in Mizdah and the surrounding areas mobilised in response to information from citizens that ISIS was erecting checkpoints and planning to target public buildings and security forces in the area. Other reports suggested that vehicles raising ISIS flags were observed travelling between Mizdah, al-Shqeeqa, and Wadi Marsit. On the evening of 9 May, a member of the Mizdah or Ghariyan security forces was killed. Unverrifed reports from local sources claim he was killed by ISIS members.
