On 20 July, a clash took place in Abu Kammash (the last town right before the border) in the early evening between militias from Zuwara and forces of the MoI Law Enforcement Agency. One man from Zuwara was wounded.The fighting flared up again and again in the hours that followed. There was also brief fighting at the Ras Ajdir border crossing itself. The fighting was triggered by the stopping and rejection of a vehicle from Zuwara at the border crossing.
On 20 July, the Tunisian authorities said that 6.4 kg of gold and 27.5 kg of silver were found and confiscated in a vehicle coming from Libya at the Ras Ajdir – Ben Guerdane border crossing. The coastal road from Abu Kammash to Ras Ajdir was then blocked at Abu Kammash by demonstrators from Zuwara.
In the afternoon of 21 July, militias from Zuwara hoisted the Amazigh flag at the exit of Abu Kammash in the direction of the border. However, the road itself was reopened.
